Monday Morning Memo----------------October 13th

Good Morning:

Don’t forget the Al Bernardi show at Sunset Ramada, beginning at 4:00 tomorrow. The show is free, and is all about produce, and explaining how to select and use the best available. All of the produce used during the show will be given away at its conclusion, along with many useful recipes. Those who have seen the show say it is excellent, and very interesting.

Right after the Bernardi show, the Hospitality Committee will put on its first Fall Hamburger Nite. Come on down, watch the show, have a hamburger, cheese burger, or vegi-burger, and meet your friends. Bring your own alcohol; everything else will be available for purchase.

The wild flower bed that has been constructed by some of our volunteers in the quad yard at Portillo and Vereda Calma has undergone some improvements. Last Friday, the bed was covered with a nicely colored pea-gravel, and planted with wild flower seed. With luck, next Spring we will see the results, which should be spectacular. Friday’s workers on the project were Barb and Joe McCalpin, Jim and Geri Lindberg, and Bob Hunton. The Rod Pearson memorial bench adjacent to the bed has had the back replaced, as the original back had developed some cracking. Bruce Liljegren oversaw this project.

We have received information that Melva Graffweg, wife of long time resident and former Board member Herb Graffweg, has passed away in Oregon. Our condolences to the family.

Saguaro Environmental Services appears to have returned to the use of the “gripper” truck -- the one with the mechanical arm that picks up your can and dumps it and then sets it back down. This being the case, if you use Saguaro, please place your trash can well away from your light pole, to avoid a problem with a collision.

The Board continues to look for solutions to the present condition of our tennis court. In the past every 5 or 6 years, we have spent around $5,000 to have the court resurfaced, only to have it revert to a deplorable condition within a year or two. This makes no sense, so we are looking for something resembling a long-term solution. A couple of possibilities have surfaced that are being explored. Two Board members traveled to Phoenix last week to look into one of them, and additional information is being sought.

Welcome back, winter visitors!

Have a good week. How about that rain Saturday morning?
