Esperanza Estates

Green Valley, AZ

January 9

Good Morning:

Pool Status Report: We have been advised that the parts needed to restore operation of the pool will be available for installation on Friday, January 13. Assuming successful installation without further problems, the pool will reopen that day.

The Periodico staff is looking for help from residents to find interesting stories in our EE community. You are the best source for leads on interesting neighbors or interesting events taking place on your block. If you know of something or someone you believe other EE residents would enjoy reading about, please contact the Periodico editor, Cynthia Surprise: cjsurprise@verizon.net or call 205-2742.

The famous Hamburger Nite festivities will begin again for the new year tomorrow, Tuesday, January 10 at the Ramada. Happy hour begins at 4:30 and grilling at 5:00. Cheeseburgers, Hamburgers, or veggie-burgers, served with chips, a drink, and a pickle, for the nominal sum of only $6.00. These events are popular, so come early. They are sponsored by our hard-working Hospitality Committee.

The EE name badges will be there in the new container, all nice and neat and available. If you have not yet picked up your badge, this would be a good time to do so. See Melodye at the event.

In addition, there will be raffle tickets on sale for a "Chef's Dinner" for four people. The Chef will come to your house, prepare the meal, and do the cleanup. One ticket is $15 and 2 for $25.
Please remember t
o bring a non-perishable food item for the local Food Bank, which is in serious need this time of year.

The Esperanza Dessert Buffet will be held Sunday, January 29 at 6 p.m. in the Ramada. Tickets may be purchased from Sandi Oster (625-0039) or Linda Winterland (815-692-4875). Tickets will also be available at the following January events:  Hamburger Night, Coffee and Donuts, HOA Annual Meeting, and Dessert Buffet.  Attention bakers!  If you would like to donate a favorite, delicious dessert for the event, please call Sandi or Linda.  Thanks!

Remember, our HOA Annual Meeting is next Monday, January 16.  Please attend if you can.

The EE Gardeners have selected Esperanza Park as the site for the Arizona Flag Mural and the ceramic snake.  They are also planning a Centennial Celebration at which time both projects will be unveiled. Stay tuned for details about this event.

As part of the Gardeners plan to enhance the appearance of our common areas, Stacie Meyer has volunteered to tile the cement bench at the Esperanza entrance monument.  Thanks to Terry Shay's efforts, GG Tile & Stone has agreed to donate a large amount of tile to the Gardeners for use on future projects.  If you are interested in joining this group, contact Bill Berdine at 344-7301.

Seventeen creative residents attended the Ceramic Snake Workshop held in the Ramada on Friday and Saturday.  A large number of beautiful tile sections for our snake have now been completed, and a second workshop will be held later this month.  This project has been a very enjoyable experience for all the participants, and they are making a significant contribution to our community.

Here is a note from EE Hikemaster Marian Mundale:  Monday (today), January 9th we will meet at the Ramada at 9:00 a.m. We will be hiking in Madera Canyon.  We will start at the Proctor parking lot and hike up to the Amphitheater.  It will be a three mile round trip hike. Those that want to stop at the Madera picnic area, it would be a two mile round trip hike.  To go to the amphitheater, it is an additional 4/10ths of a mile. Most of the trail is easy walking, some rocks.  Good shoes, hiking poles if you have them. Elevation around 400 feet.  Bring water, lunch, we will eat at the amphitheater.  We will be sharing gas expense with the drivers.

As reported in the Green Valley News, there have been several burglaries within the last couple of months in various neighborhoods around our community.  Some of these break-ins have been through the large sliding glass doors.  To prevent anyone from springing the locks on these doors, we suggest that you install a wooden dowel on the inside slider track channel.  Also, prudence suggests we all implement other common-sense protective measures, such as locking our doors and windows.

The EEHOA annual meeting is next Monday, Jan. 16th, and the period for voting your choices for additional trim colors is approaching the deadline.  We will collect the final ballots on Saturday, 1/14/12, so they can be tabulated and the results given at the annual meeting.

As of 1/8/12, the four leading trim color choices are:
1st - #12 (Brown Eyes) and #11 (Cinnebar) - 119 points
3rd - #10 (Terracotta Sand) - 62 points
4th - # 7 (Verona Beach) - 60 points
The next closest is #2 (Gourmet Honey) - 39 points.
There are a total of 85 ballots.  Seventeen of the ballots either have no choices marked or chose colors that were not on the palette displayed in the Ramada.  Of the 68 ballots counted, Brown Eyes is on 41 and Cinnebar is on 39.

It is important to note that unless the amendment to the CC&R's is passed, the only trim color available will remain Norfolk Brown.  Please be sure to cast your vote for this important issue.

Thanks to all who have taken their time and effort to help with this proposition.

Neighborhood Watch has a vacancy for a Block Captain and needs a volunteer for  this position in Zone 20 which includes homes from 1093-1143 on Circulo del Sur. All homes are on the south side of del Sur.  If you have any questions, contact the head of our Neighborhood Watch program, Mary Beth Wallace, at 399-0299 or by email to: merrymary7@q.com .

Have a good week!
