Monday Morning Memo

January 5, 2015        Esperanza Estates        Green Valley, AZ

Save the Dates
When you live in EE, there's little chance to get the post-holiday blues with so many activities scheduled this month.  Mark your new 2015 calendar so you don't miss out on these special events. Details below:

First, try your hand at polymer clay creations at the Fiber Arts workshop on Thursday, January 8, from 1:00 to 3:00.

Then on Tuesday, January 13, the Hospitality Committee will seek to break their record of 138 attendees at the Sausage Fest featuring Optimist Club Italian sausage.

On Monday, January 19, witness government in action at the EEHOA Annual Meeting.

The Arts Club will hold its first ever wine & cheese gathering on Friday, January 23, with a silent auction of donated examples of the talents of Esperanza residents. Bid high!

Finally, Sunday, February 8 is the Enhancement Team's Birthday Bash.

Book Group on Tuesday
The EE Book Discussion Group will meet tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. at the Ramada to discuss Wonder. If the weather is too cold, the meeting will be held at a member's home.  A sign with the location will be posted at the Ramada.

Book Exchange
The Book Exchange cabinet at the Ramada (inside the pool area) is full of great reading choices. Thank you to all who have donated books!  Periodically, the books are weeded to make room for recent donations, so check for "new reads" frequently.  Books which have not been circulated recently are donated to the Enhancement Team's EE Thrift Sale in March.
If you have a large number of books to donate, call Cindy Krantz (203-8292) for a pick-up, as the number of books is limited by the size of the Book Exchange cabinet.

Gardeners Get in High Gear
The Gardeners will meet on Wednesday, January 7 at 1:00 p.m. to finalize the location of individual trees in the shade tree park.  Meet at the park.  New members are welcome.

Play with Clay
Learn to make jewelry or other objets d'arte by attending the polymer clay workshop to be held by the Fiber Arts Group on Thursday, January 8, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. in the Ramada.  Please bring several colors of clay with you.

Sausage Fest
Both the Hospitality Committee and the Optimist Club are gearing up for the Sausage Fest scheduled for Tuesday, January 13th at the Ramada. Social time begins at 4:30, with dinner at 5PM. Your $6 includes an immodest Italian sausage on a bun (with grilled onions, grilled sweet bell peppers, sauerkraut and condiments), chips, a cookie, and your choice of beer, wine, pop, or water.

Happy Birthday to You!
On February 8 the Enhancement Team will hold a Birthday Bash at 2:00 p.m. in the Ramada to celebrate everyone's birthday.  There will be cake, ice cream and games to celebrate. Tickets are $5.00 per person, and everyone is asked to bring an inexpensive ($5 max) gift or a "re-gift".  Gifts should be wrapped and marked for male, female or general. You can purchase a ticket at the Sausage Fest on the 13th or contact Marian Mundale 625-2238 or Louise McCabe 445-6237.

Calling All Yogis or Wannabes
Gentle yoga classes will begin at the Ramada every Monday and Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. The first class will be held on Monday, January 12th and will be a get acquainted meeting with a few very gentle warm-up poses. No need for anyone to bring mats, etc. for this first class. We're going to ask to have the heaters available in case of cool weather. Our certified yoga instructor is Valerie Davenport. The suggested donation is $5-$6 per class after the initial session. All January and February classes will be on Mondays and Wednesdays at 3 PM. These days and times will be re-evaluated by the group for the spring/summer months. All are invited to join the group or to come and evaluate your options. For questions or comments please contact either Sharon Rowe (srowe62902@aol.com or 625-5201), or Mary Grgich (marygrgich17@gmail.com or 207-8069.)

2015 Off to a Good Start
Residents braved the cold temperatures on New Year's Day to celebrate with neighbors at the First Day Party.  Thanks to Jane Ellingson and her many assistants for getting the new year off right.

EE Directory of Names and Addresses
If you are new to EE this year or your phone number has changed since last year, contact Cheri Day (thedays007@aol.com) before Wednesday to make sure you are listed correctly in the 2015 directory. Directories will be sold at the Annual Meeting on January 19.

Vote!
All homeowners should have received the materials for the EEHOA Annual Meeting on January 19. There are four candidates for three open Board positions, and your vote can make a difference.

Trouble Breathing?
Poor air quality affects many of us; if you would like to receive email notices of air quality alerts to conditions that may cause you problems, you can receive Pima County Department of Environmental Quality notices by emailing Beth Gorman at the DEQ ( Beth.gorman@pima.gov ) or sign up at DEQ's web site: http://webcms.pima.gov/cms/One.aspx?portalId=169&pageId=89838.
