Hiking to Tiny's
In response to continual clamoring for a "Watering Hole Hike," Fearless
Leader Marian Mundale and the EE Hikers head for Starr Pass this
morning at 8 am. They'll be hiking in the Tucson Mountains. With a
few side hikes, this excursion will be a four-mile, full-sun hike with a
600 foot elevation gain. Hiking poles are advised on this trail due to
loose rock on inclines. A stop at Tiny's for a bite and a brew are
forecast on the return trip. Meet at the Ramada with $5 for carfare. We
don't have to mention water again, do we?
Arts Club Has Fun with Pots
Yes, that's "pots"--plural. The Arts Club will meet in the Ramada today,
Monday, at 1 pm to work on the three mosaic pots. Any residents
interested in a collaborative, creative outlet are invited to join in
the fun.
Parade Planning
Plans for EE's entry in the White Elephant parade will be revealed at
the Ramada on Wednesday January 29 at 10:00 a.m. You can help
work on the float even if you won't be in Green Valley in October for
the parade. We need handymen, creative types, general helpers and people
to just stand around and watch the progress. If you want to help but
can't come to the meeting, contact Cynthia Surprise at
cjsurprise@verizon.net.
Tennis Anyone?
EE's tennis players meet every Friday with an 8:30'ish start
time. They're a relaxed and social group and always ready to welcome a
newcomer. So grab your racket and join the group. Brunch at a local
restaurant after the competition, is optional.
Mark Your Calendars Now
Hospitaltiy will present "Sausage Fest" on Wednesday, February 26th,
with the help of the Optimist Club chefs.
Wednesday, March 19th is the date for the "Pulled Pork Country
Hoedown". Details to follow as they are available. The next
Hospitality Committee is scheduled for 10 am, Wednesday, February 5th
at the Ramada. Anyone wishing to join event planning or help with
inventory and reorganization of supplies is urged to attend.
Bookies
The EE Book Club's next meeting will be held on February 18 at 2:00
at the Ramada. There are two book options for the month: The Devil's
Highway by Luis Alberto Urrea and/or The Death of Josseline:
Immigration Stories from the Arizona Borderlands by Margaret Regan.
The two books have a common theme so you can read either one or both.
New members are always welcome.
Retirement Party
Well known EE handyman Emil Ziemer is hanging up his tool belt, and
throwing a party. Emil and Priscilla invite everyone in EE to join in
their celebration on February 9 at 4:30 p.m. at the Ramada.

Neighborhood Watch Reports Home Break In
Neighborhood Watch Captain Mary Beth Wallace reports the following:
"Last week, a resident's home was entered during the night while he
was asleep. The resident was not harmed and found the front door ajar
the next morning. Several items including banking information were
taken. The Sheriff's office was notified and has conducted an
investigation.
Neighborhood Watch also learned last week that another incident occurred
in November. Two men came to a resident's door and asked for money. The
men left when a visitor threatened to call 911. Fortunately, the
security door was locked.
The Sheriff's office urges all resident to lock their security doors if
they have them and remember those sliding doors too."
Plant Theft Reported
Someone dug up and removed the Mexican primroses that the Gardeners had
planted in the Ramada garden. If anyone know the whereabouts of these
plants, please let Bill Berdine know. Perhaps the culprit will have a
change of heart and return them to the garden.
Please Don't Feed the Javalinas
Reminder that it is illegal to feed wildlife.
