January 25

Good Morning:

The 32nd annual meeting of the EEHOA was held January 18th at the Desert Hills Recreation Center. The meeting was well attended.

The annual election of directors took place at the meeting; Joe McCalpin, Stoney Brown, and Sam Barnard were elected to the Board to serve for three year terms. Following the meeting, an organizational session took place and officers and committee heads were elected and appointed for the coming year.  For 2010, president will be Tom Cooke; vice-president, Bruce Liljegren; Secretary, Joe McCalpin; and treasurer, Joan Moreaux. Common Area maintenance will continue to be headed up by Stoney Brown; Neighborhood Relations, Sam Barnard; Architectural Control, Bob Hunton; Capital Projects, Sandy Reed; Recreation Areas, Tom Cooke; and a new committee for the welcoming new residents will be chaired by Barb McCalpin.

A special presentation about the EE website, www.esperanzaestates.net was presented by our webmaster, Craig Surprise, who was also the recipient of a special award plaque from the Board and residents for his many contributions to our HOA.  As his presentation reflected, our website is a work of wonder, and we encourage you to check it out. We’ve learned that our webmaster has made a change to the EE website to make it easier to view the calendar of upcoming EE events.  A small calendar is now displayed in the lower-left portion of the home page.  By clicking on it, the full-size calendar will be displayed. The time and place of each activity listed on the calendar can be seen by just clicking on its listing in the full-size calendar.  We hope you will come back often to check this out and learn what is going on and coming up in EE.  Remember, click on www.esperanzaestates.net

If you are a lover of jazz, you are in luck! The Valle Verde Rotary Club is sponsoring a jazz festival on March 6, featuring jazz bands from several local academies and high schools, from 6:00 pm at the Canoa Hills Social Center. Admission is only $10. Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the event, which will benefit the Green Valley United Community Health Center Pediatrics unit. There will also be a live auction, silent auction, and Three Play Raffle. This will be a fun evening at a nominal cost, for the benefit of a local charitable organization which helps our community. Call 399-0455 for tickets and further information.

The SWLL (Strong Women Live Longer) group has decided to change its acronym to SWELL (Strong Women Exercising Live Longer).  All else about the group, remains the same. They meet at 9:30 am Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at the Ramada to exercise with weights weighing from 1 to 5 pounds.  All interested in engaging in this healthful form of exercise are invited to come.  Call Jane Ellingson, 625-7782 for more information

The Enhancement Team, which will be sponsoring this years EE Home Tour, has announced it now has over 18 outside sponsors to help it with the expenses incidental to the Tour. The names of the sponsors will be listed on the Home Tour program. The Tour will happen on March 21. This year a number of beautiful EE homes will be featured. Watch for announcements about the ticket sales, which will commence the first week in March. The wine and cheese festival, which is a part of the Home Tour, and included in the ticket price, will happen after the Tour at Sunset Ramada. This will be the best one ever!!

Our own Marvol Barnard has added another accolade to her already long list by achieving certification from the Titleist Performance Institute, and is now the only golf professional in southern Arizona to claim this honor.  Marvol is already a PGA and LPGA Class A professional, one of only a small handful in the entire country who hold both designations. We’re proud she is our neighbor, and extend our congratulations as well. Need help with your game? See Marvol.

We have just learned of some Enhancement Team plans to begin a beautification effort on our entrance monuments on Esperanza and Portillo, and the arches in and near the Ramada and pool areas. This will be accomplished through the addition of some colorful and decorative tile and paint work, which will enhance these areas greatly. They never quit! It is one good work after another. Stay tuned.

Board secretary Joe McCalpin has replaced Board Vice-president Bruce Liljegren as the EE representative to the GVCCC, effective immediately. The GVCCC (Green Valley Community Coordinating Council) is a group of most of the HOA’s in Green Valley, and acts as Green Valley’s representative to Pima County, since the community is not incorporated and thus, has no governmental authority of its own.

The 2010 EE phone directory will be available shortly.  Watch for an announcement.

Another hazardous waste disposal day will be held at the Presbyterian Church on March 13, Saturday. Mark your calendar if you have hazardous waste to dispose of.

Have a good week.
