Esperanza Estates

Green Valley, AZ

January 23

Good Morning:

The EE HOA annual meeting, held last Monday, was well attended. Reports from the Board and volunteer committees were given, and we had a special presentation from the Green Valley Council, explaining their functions and activities, and how they can be of help to our HOA.

Board members Joan Moreaux (re-elected), Dean Hess (also re-elected) and Stacie Meyer (newly elected) will all serve 3-year terms. The 2012 Board Officers are: Eric Ellingson, President; Tom Cooke, Vice-President; Joe McCalpin, Secretary; Joan Moreaux, Treasurer.  The Board standing committee appointees were: Dean Hess, Common Areas; Stacie Meyer, Neighborhood Relations; Tom Cooke, Recreational Facilities; Boyd Morse, Capital Projects; Jim Lindberg and Joe McCalpin, Architectural.  A complete list of contact information for each board member will appear in the January issue of the Periodico, and EE web site 'HOA Board' & 'Committees' pages.

The proposal to amend the CC&Rs to allow alternate trim colors on EE homes was defeated. Total votes on this question were 209. The vote was yes--148; no--62, and one ballot was disallowed. The CC&Rs require a positive vote of 179 to amend the document, so the measure failed.

Bricks honoring service to our HOA by Steve "Stoney" BrownBarb McCalpin,  Craig Surprise, and Kathy Sawin were awarded and will be installed at the Ramada.

Free Coffee and Donuts at the Ramada was held last Wednesday, and attended by a good sized group. They expressed the usual enjoyment over the affair, which is held on the third Wednesday of each month. Winner of the door prize--two dinners at the Agave Restaurant--was Barb Cottrell.

DESSERT BUFFET:  Come to the Ramada on Sunday, Jan. 29th for your JUST DESSERTS!  Tickets, available for just $5, will allow you unlimited sampling of delicious desserts, beginning at 6 p.m.  Musical entertainment and a cake walk also will be a part of your evening.  To help us plan on number of desserts, please call Sandi Oster (625-0039) or Linda Winterland (815-692-4875) to purchase your tickets.  Thanks!  Also, tickets will be sold at the door.

Arizona became a state on February 14, 1912.  Esperanza Estates will have a celebration to mark the Centennial.  Kathy Sawin (one of EEs resident artists) has created a large mosaic panel depicting the Arizona flag.  She has also worked with many residents of EE to create a large mosaic snake.  Both these pieces of public art will be unveiled in Esperanza Park at a dedication ceremony on February 14 at 3:30 p.m.  The unveiling will be followed by a parade of golf carts, bicycles, and pedestrians.  The parade will wind its way to the Ramada where we will enjoy a potluck dinner and a birthday cake.   There will be a Centennial program with Lillie Sheehan sharing a short history of Arizona and music arranged by Mary Hess.  Dig out your western wear or period costumes for the occasion, decorate your golf cart or bicycle for the parade, and come join the community celebration!

The referenced potluck dinner will be in lieu of the regular February Hamburger Nite.

One of our neighbors, Trish Rodemeyer, was in a serious accident on I-19 last Sunday. She was not seriously hurt, but is dealing with a series of post accident issues and asks that well-wishers email her at yupper@q.com instead of calling. Trish is very appreciative for all of the concerns that have been expressed on her behalf, and wishes to thank all who have done so.

Do you have a neighbor who cannot read the Periodico because they don't have a computer with Internet access and aren't aware that they can have a printed copy delivered?  If so, contact Denise Roessle at droessle@mac.com and we will add them to our delivery list. The January Periodico will be available toward the end of this week.

Here is a note from our Hikemaster:
Monday (today), Jan 23rd we will be hiking to the Indian Kitchen.  It will be about a 2 1/2 mile round trip hike.  Some of the trail is rugged so a good hiking shoe is helpful, and bring a walking stick or poles if you have them.
We will meet today at 9:00 at the Ramada and should be back before noon.  Bring water and a snack for our rest stop at the kitchen.  Car fare will be $2.00. See you Monday. Marian Mundale (Hikemaster) mm122169@hotmail.com.

Have a good week.
