EE HOA Meeting Today
Today, 2:00 at Desert Hills Recreation Center. Don't miss this very
important, once a year event. Find out what's happening in our
subdivision and show your support for our community. Remember that if
you did not mail in you ballot, you may vote in person at the meeting.
Check-in begins at 1:30. Bring money so you can buy an EE Directory or
two
($3 each), an EE license plate or two ($10 each) or a raffle ticket for the ceramic bird
house ($1 each, or 6 for $5). The Periodico will cover the event, but other
news media had a conflict with some other event going on in D.C.
Get Out of the Kitchen and Hike to the Indian
Kitchen
Today's EE Hike is the very local 2 mile trek to the Indian Kitchen. The
200 foot incline takes you up the hill to an overhang with multiple
metates indicating long term use for grinding grain. Meet at the Ramada
today at 8:30 am with $1 for carfare. Fearless Leader Marian Mundale
indicates that hikers will be back in plenty of time to have lunch and
attend the HOA Annual Meeting.
Moving for the Health of It with Aquasize
This beautiful weather promises to bring the beautiful people of EE back
to the pool at 3:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a pain free
workout. Join this good looking, hard working group for as much or as
little of the hour as you like. You'll look and feel great, too. All
anyone can see of you is your head when you aquasize. We all look good.
Movie Night
Now that more seasonal temperatures are back, so are the Wednesday Night
Movies at the Ramada.
The January 23 film is Larry Crowne, starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts.
After he's laid off from his longtime job at a soulless retail giant,
average middle-aged guy Larry Crowne decides it's time to change his
life by heading back to college, where he finds a new perspective -- and
a new romance with a professor.
The movie starts at 6:00, and admission is a donation to the EE Arts
Club ($2.00 is suggested, but they accept larger donations too). Coffee,
cookies and heaters are provided.
Fiber Arts Group Meeting
Show and tell about your fiber arts project on Wednesday, January 23 at
1:00 at Donna Shay's home, 1118 Circulo del Sur.
New members are welcome.
Arts Club Meeting Participants Survive Freezing
Temperatures
Thanks to Jane Ellingson for hosting the January 16th Arts Club meeting.
The few, the brave, and the bundled up who attended the meeting elected
to postpone elections until the February 10th meeting. Kevin Welsh is
applying the finishing touches to his prototype Pueblo Village and
invites EE residents to view the display outside 1106 Del Sur. Watch for
Arts Club news to find out how you can add this charmer to your yard.
The Arts Club workshop to complete the pots and tortoise will be held
Thursday at 1:00 in the Ramada.
"A Series of Unfortunate Events" or "The Litany of
the EE Pool and Spa"
The new decking is a wonderful plus for the pool and spa area. The pool
and spa are open as of this posting.
Recreation Director Tom Cooke
gives us this account of the process.
"Following the deck replacement, the entire area--including the
bathrooms, pool, spa tub and poolside furniture--required a thorough
cleaning. Think Pompeii after the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. Water levels
and temperatures needed to be restored to operational levels. The pool
cover-an on-again-off-again problem-continues to malfunction despite
repeated visits from the repairman. Estimates for its replacement are
being obtained. The jets on the spa are currently out of commission. A
pump which was leaking, has been repaired."
Movie rights for "Tom Cooke: A Series of Unfortunate Events" will be
negotiated with Pixar. Obviously, Arnold Schwartznegger, with his
uncanny resemblance to Tom Cooke, will play the lead role.
Don't Be Known As "Whatsisname"
Get an official EE name badge to wear at EE events. To order your badge,
contact Melody at 399-0455 or
melodye1@cox.net
before January 27. Cost
of a badge is $6.00. Have a badge but lost the magnet? Duct tape won't work, but
you can order a replacement for $1.00.
Mr. Cleanup
Thanks to Jim Lindberg for helping the regular cleaning person clean up
the substantial amount of dust in the women's restroom from the Kool
Deck work. No, he isn't willing to make house calls, and doesn't do
windows.
Remember Fibber McGee?
"I gotta get that closet cleaned out one of these days." Too bad Fibber
and Molly didn't have an Enhancement Team to help them out. But YOU do!
A simple call to Bev Brow (625-7741), Jackie Rautio (269-7864), Lorna
Kitchak (838-0653), Jane Ellingson (625-7782) or Sandi Oster (625-0039)
of our Enhancement Team to donate your stuff to the annual Ramada Sale
(March 2) makes de-cluttering easy. And it helps our community since the
proceeds go toward enhancing EE. Donations have been slow so far, so
your items will be greatly appreciated. The team can use furniture,
housewares, linens, art, jewelry, belts, scarves, collectibles, books,
toys, games, and some electronics. Just about anything except clothing.
The team will also sell baked goods at the sale, so please let Sandi or
Bev know if you can whip up some treats to donate.
Arts Club Clothing Drive
The Arts Club is organizing a clothing drive to bring warm clothing and
blankets to the Crossroads Mission in Nogales, Sonora. The mission
provides meals to families. Please call Jane Ellingson (625-7782) or
Donna Shay (815-243-3402) if you have items to donate.
News From The Gardeners
Thanks to Barbara Rydall for donating a Texas laurel and three desert
spoons, and to Randy and Carolyn Acher for donating a four-foot barrel
cactus to the common areas. If you have a plant in your yard you would
like to donate to the common areas, contact Bill Berdine (whberdine@roadrunner.com.)
The Gardeners recently purchased some native grasses for the new
planting beds at Palo Verde del Norte Park and some golden barrel cactus
and a saguaro for the Ramada area. A group of volunteers will be
planting these shortly. If you like getting your hands in the dirt, the
Gardeners would welcome your help.
Book Club Begins
The initial meeting of the new EE Book Club took place last Thursday,
and over a dozen members turned up to plan the future reading list for
the group. The group will meet at the Ramada the third Thursday of the
month at 3:00. At the next meeting on February 21, the group will discuss
Defending Jacob by William Landay. New members are welcome at any time.
Contact Kathy LaVanway (kathylavanway@gmail.com) or
Cindy Krantz (krantzcindys@yahoo.com) for more information.
Document Your View
Paul McCreary is creating a documentary about the Second Amendment, and
is looking for people to interview about their views. If you are willing
to give a short interview, contact Paul at 970-596-1505.
