Good Morning:

Happy New Year!

If you have not yet seen the December edition of the Periodico, check it out soon. It is going to just blow you away! Past issues have been outstanding, but December will just knock your socks off! It has color, stories, bios, history, pictures, and a whole lot more. Our editor, Cynthia Surprise, and our publisher, Denise Roessle, are the best in the business--and our collective hats are off to them both. We suspect they walk on the shoulders of giants!  This has to be the finest HOA publication anywhere. Cynthia and Denise are defining their own terms in excellence.  Click here to read the December issue.  Don't miss it!

POOL REPORT: We met with representatives of a pool cover repair company this past week, who advised new parts are needed, and would be ordered for installation ASAP. Besides the necessary parts, the cover is torn along a critical seam and will need to be mended. Moving the cover in its current condition risks further damage, so we ask for your continued patience.

A Note from Dana Harje Zamora: "A big thank you to all of you who so graciously answered the call for donations to the Ronald McDonald House. Each child awoke on Christmas morning to gifts that "Santa" left by their door. They were ecstatic!  Happy Holidays to you all!

The annual First Day Party at the Ramada was a festive affair, held during a beautiful day, and enjoyed  by the many attendees. This event continues to grow each year, and over 75 residents participated Sunday.

The Esperanza Dessert Buffet will start at 6 p.m. on Sunday, January 29 at the Ramada. Tickets may be purchased from Sandi Oster (625-0039) or Linda Winterland (815-692-4875). Tickets will be available at the following January events:  Hamburger Night, Coffee and Donuts, HOA Annual Meeting, and Dessert Buffet.    Attention  bakers!  If you would like to donate a favorite, delicious dessert, please call Sandi or Linda.

Hamburger Nites begin again January 10. Happy time begins at 4:30 and grilling at 5:00. Always a good time, with table service, chips, and your choice of a hamburger, cheeseburger, or veggie-burger, served with a pickle and a drink for a nominal low price.

If you have ordered a name tag and not yet picked it up, Hamburger Nite would be a good time to do so. See Melodye at the event.

The Annual Meeting of the HOA will be held Monday, January 16. See the details in the mailing sent to all members.

The Second Snake Workshop is scheduled for Friday & Saturday, January 6 & 7, starting at 1 p.m. at the Ramada. Teachers/Instructors are asked to come at 12:30 to help with the setup.  Participants who signed up previously should wear old clothes and bring a bucket, a sponge and colorful dishes.  Also needed are glass jars with tops.  Tall olive jars are coveted.  Please call Jane Ellingson @ 625-7782 to confirm your availability.  A make-up workshop will be held on Thursday & Friday, January 19 & 20, also starting at 1:00 at the Ramada.

A New Year's Eve bonfire was held in the newly moved fire pit at EE Park, during which an old wooden bridge which had long since outlived its service life, was ceremoniously burned. The Park is undergoing a transformative rebirth under the guidance of the EE Gardeners, to make it a more useful and interesting place. The New Year's Eve breaking-in of the Park was enjoyed by a small but enthusiastic group from the Gardeners. This event has potential to develop into something regular. If anyone has any firewood to donate, it would be welcomed--just leave it by the fire pit in the park. The Gardeners are also looking for a chiminea; if you have one to donate, please call Bill Berdine at 344-7301.

With sorrow, we have learned of the recent passing of long-time winter visitor June Simonson. Our condolences go out to the family.

Have a good week--and a good year!
