Monday Morning Memo--------------January 19th

Good Morning:

Remember the annual meeting of the EEHOA takes place today at the Desert Hills Recreation Center, 2980 S. Camino del Sol.
Check-in begins at 12:15 and the call to order will occur at 1:00. The election for directors and reports of all EE committees will be given. Please attend the meeting if possible.

Remember as well the Hospitality Committee’s first Hamburger Nite of 2009 will be tomorrow night, January 20th, at Sunset Ramada beginning at 4:30. Bring your own alcohol--all else will be available. The weather report suggests a beautiful evening.

35 people showed up to enjoy Coffee and Donuts at the Ramada this past Wednesday morning. It was a beautiful, sunny and warm morning and a nice time. Remember this event takes place the second Wednesday of each month, so put it on your calendar. It’s a freebee.

The Green Valley Food Bank has a Gleaning program in place. If you have more citrus growing in your yard than you can use, they would appreciate you donating the same to the Bank. They will even come and pick it for you at no charge, and deliver it to the Bank for distribution to their clients. Or, you can deliver it to them. Donation hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 to 2. Call 625-5252 for further information. These are difficult economic times for many, and the demands on the Food Bank’s available resources have increased dramatically, so any extra fruit you can spare will be put to good use.

Our Hospitality Committee has decided to change the day of the Valentine’s Party to February 15th, in lieu of the 14th. The change is being made so everyone will have a chance to take their sweetheart out on the 14th. The party on the 15th will begin at Sunset Ramada at 2:00p.m., and the Committee will serve cake and coffee. Please make a note of the change.

17 pickleball players showed up last Tuesday--a record turnout. Our instructor and coach, Gary Beatty, has come up with a system to turn our tennis court into 4 pickle ball courts on a temporary basis, so there is plenty of opportunity to play, as well as to learn the game. Clinics are held each Tuesday and Thursday morning, from 10 to noon. Gary has also located a permanent locker for pickleball play utensils, which has been installed in the tennis shelter in a vacant spot, and made theft proof. New learners are welcome, so come and join us. It is a fun game and great exercise.

The 9th annual Lunar Party has been scheduled for Sunday evening, February 8th, beginning at 5:00 p.m. at EE (Flag) Park on Holgado. This is always a fun evening, totally free, and with eats and drinks provided to enjoy with a giant pecan and mesquite wood bonfire. The menu is still under construction, but typically includes hot dogs, chili, smoors, wine, beer, soft drinks, hot chocolate, and more. We have a great time as we watch the full moon come up in our Park, around the fire. Put it on your calendar and don’t miss it. It is one of the best attended annual events in Esperanza Estates. It is not a Hospitality Committee event, but instead is sponsored by private individuals.

The EE Enhancement Team is actively seeking items for the Annual Patio Sale, which will be held on Sat., March 7th at the Sunset Ramada. Proceeds from the sale fund improvements to our Ramada and common areas. Household items in good condition, including furniture, appliances, housewares, dishes, glassware, linens, decor, toys, books, CDs, etc. are welcome and pick up is available. Please NO clothing or electronics (computer equipment, phones, etc.).

To donate items, please call: Sandi Oster (625-0039), Barb McCalpin (867-8067), Barb Cottrell (648-3149), or Bev Brow (625-7744).

Remember to check the EE website and its events calendar occasionally, at www.esperanzaestates.net
If you have an event coming, you can post it to the calendar, or to get it in the MMM, call 399-0455. There is no charge.

The “Walk Across Arizona” program begins February 1st and runs to March 28th. It is not a “walk-a-thon” or a fundraiser, but a way to build a healthy habit with friends and co-workers. Registration is $10, and this cost covers program materials, a tee shirt, and a pedometer. The registration deadline is January 30th. Call Sheila Bennen at 399-0501 for more information. Walkers report their miles each week to their team captain, and the winning team receives the grand prize. Build a team of 5 to 10 friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc. and enter this event. EE has had a team in this program for several years and has finished high in the overall standings.

A few days ago there was an accident involving a dog that was hit in EE by a resident here. The party involved felt terrible about it and asked that the following be inserted in the Memo as a reminder to others that we need to be constantly vigilant:

“I am the person who ran over that little dog on Wednesday night. I was going about 35 mph west on Esperanza when the dog ran out of the desert in front of my car. If I had been going 25 mph, maybe I would have been able to avoid hitting him. I want to suggest that EE residents try to drive up and down Esperanza at 25 mph and perhaps avoid hitting any animal that happens to cross the road."

Kudos to Greg Gramstad for his work on our tennis court surface, helping to fit the tiles to the parameters of the court. Nice work, Greg, and thanks.

Happy birthday Tess!

Have a good week. We hope to see you today at the annual meeting.
