January 17

Good Morning:

Remember the Annual Meeting today at the Desert Hills Recreation Center, 2980 S. Camino del Sol. Sign-in begins at 12:15, and the call to order will be held at 1:00. The meetings generally last about an hour, and will feature reports from each of the volunteer committees. There will be an opportunity to ask questions about any HOA matter in which you may have an interest.

The 2011 EE Phone & Street Directory will be available to order at the Annual Meeting.  You may pre-purchase one or more directories ($5 for the first one; $3 for each additional one) for delivery to your home, when available; you can also check the information that will appear in the directory, to confirm that it's up to date and just as you want it to appear.  ('got a nickname? It's allowed in the EE directory!)

The first Hamburger Nite of 2011, held last Tuesday night, was a big success. About 100 people attended and had the usual good time. Our Hospitality Committee did their normal excellent job, for which we were all most appreciative. A special treat--chocolate chip cookies-- were provided, courtesy of Ed and Mary Buchholz. This was the first of many Hamburger Nites to follow; they are nearly always held the second Tuesday of the month. Watch for future announcements, and plan on attending this event often. It is always a fun time.

Free Coffee & Donuts at the Ramada last Wednesday found about 30 people enjoying conversation, coffee and pastries. This freebie event takes place the second Wednesday of each month, so put it on your calendar. Watch this memo for the start times, as they change a bit with the weather, but the good time, and the coffee and donuts are always the same.

The Volunteer Landscape Work Crew started its second clean up project on Wednesday, immediately after coffee & donuts. Volunteers worked on the walking trail along the arroyo between Portillo and Holgado. Those assisting this month were Dick Carver, Marian Mundale, Roger Oster, Hugh Gates, Kevin Welsh, Ken Adler, Stein and Colleen Simonsen, KD Thompson, Barb McCalpin, Jackie Rautio, Bill Berdine, and Terry and Donna Shay. Many thanks to all these volunteers for helping keep EE well maintained and looking good.

Did you make a New Year's resolution to get rid of that old clutter that you're not using any more?  You're in luck!  Our Enhancement Team is collecting new & used items for their annual Patio Sale, to be held this coming spring. They are accepting clean household items and small furniture.  For pickup, call: Bev Brow (625-7741); Lorna Kitchak (838-0653); Jackie Rautio (269-7864.) This is the Team's major yearly fund-raiser, and remember, all proceeds from the sale are invested right back into EE for improvements and enhancements.

The "Bob" referred to in the last MMM is Bob Venhau, who resides at  675 Nueva. He used a book of ancient ruins to create his works of art along the EE Trail, just east of Portillo.  Bob is one of our winter residents from Alaska. Check out the work he and Stoney Brown have done along the Trail.  It is definitely worth a look.

A Dessert Buffet will be held at the Ramada on Jan. 30 at 6:00 p.m. It is sponsored by the Esperanza Enhancement Team, and tickets are just $5.00.  Buy your tickets by calling Jackie Rautio (269-7864), Barb McCalpin (867-8067), or Lorna Kitchak (838-0653.) For the price of a ticket, attendees will be able to sample 3 desserts; coffee or tea will be provided.  For entertainment, an old-fashoned Cake Walk is planned.

SPECIAL NOTE FOR THOSE ON RESTRICTED DIETS

Desserts for persons on gluten-free and diabetic restrictive diets will be available at the Buffet.

The Enhancement Team is also putting out a call to all EE cooks and bakers--to prepare and donate their favorite desserts for the Dessert Buffet.  For more details, contact one of the Team members noted above, or Barb McCalpin at 867-8067. This  event is a fund-raiser for the Team, to help fund their projects, all of which directly go to benefit Esperanza Estates. Your participation will help in these efforts.

Many thanks to Jane Ellingson for her work in keeping the Sunset Park area looking spiffy, and for taking care of the flowers near the pool entrance.

A key with a tag saying it is for a storage closet was found at the Ramada Thursday afternoon. Call 399-0455 and describe to claim.

We hope to have the pool reopened on its regular schedule this week. It will be opened on a temporary shorter-than-normal hours basis, from 10 am to 5 pm, until then.

Interested in joining an Esperanza Estates hiking group? If so, please call Marian Mundale at 625-2238.

Have a good week.
