Esperanza Estates

Green Valley, AZ

January 16

Good Morning:

The EEHOA annual meeting is today. The location is the Desert Hills Recreation Center, 2980 S. Camino del Sol, in Green Valley. Check in starts at 12:15, and the call to order will be at 1:00 p.m. Please attend the meeting if you can. Reports from the Board will be heard, as will the results of the election. EE directories, Dessert Buffet tickets,  and Pet Plaques (for the Ramada Pet Post) will be on sale.

The pool reopened Saturday morning, following repairs to the cover completed on Friday. The delay was to allow the water to heat back up to a temperature suitable for swimming. Normal pool hours have now resumed.

Another sewer problem at the pool restrooms was attacked by replacing the check valve in the line. Some of the stoppages during the past months were due to this valve becoming stuck in a closed position. The valve, which was over 30 years old,  has been replaced by modern version, allowing  easy clean-out without requiring the services of a plumber.

Arizona became a state February 14, 1912.  Esperanza Estates will have a celebration to mark the Centennial.  Kathy Sawin has created a mosaic mural depicting the Arizona flag.  She has worked with many residents of EE to create a large mosaic snake.  Both these pieces of public art will be unveiled at their new home in Esperanza Park  (sometimes called Flag Park) at a dedication ceremony on February 14 at 3:30.  This will be followed by a parade of golf carts, bicycles and pedestrians.  The parade will wind its way to the Ramada where we will enjoy a potluck dinner and a birthday cake.   There will be a Centennial program with Lillie Sheehan sharing a short history of Arizona and music arranged by Mary Hess.  Dig out your western wear or period costumes for the occasion.  Decorate your golf cart or bicycle for the parade.  Come join the community celebration!

The first Hamburger Nite of 2012 was held last Tuesday, and was a full house. Hamburger Nites are held monthly, on the second Tuesday at the Ramada, and are sponsored and put on by our hard-working Hospitality Committee. These events have become very popular. We have been informed by the local Food Bank that food donations at the event totaled 53 pounds. Many thanks to all the givers.

Melodye reports that 171 EE name tags have been purchased. This is a highly positive sign, as these purchasers are the ones who support the HOA and come to our events. We are becoming a much more social community, and friendlier with one another, and that's a good thing. Need a name tag? Want to run with the big dogs? Want to walk on the shoulders of giants? Call Melodye at 399-0455, or email her at melodye1@cox.net. The cost is a nominal $6.00.  All recent orders have been completed, and the tags are available from Melodye.

Free Coffee and Donuts at the Ramada will be held this coming Wednesday, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Come down and join your neighbors for a cup and a donut. Never a charge, never a meeting or agenda, and never an ax to grind. Just some social time together.  A door prize will be awarded.

EE Dessert Buffet tickets will be on sale today before the annual meeting.  The buffet will be held on Sun., Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. in the Ramada.  Price is $5 per ticket for sampling unlimited desserts.  So come to buy your ticket to sweet treats!

BAKERS of EE: please contact Sandi (625-0039) or Linda (815-692-4875) to let one of them know what delicious baked good you would like to contribute for the EE Dessert Buffet.  There's still room at the table for your delicacies.

The Periodico staff is looking for suggestions from residents of interesting stories in our EE community. You are the best source for leads on interesting neighbors or interesting events taking place on your block. If you know of something or someone you believe other EE residents would enjoy reading about, please contact the Periodico editor, Cynthia Surprisecjsurprise@verizon.net or call 205-2742.

As a reminder, the CC&Rs of our subdivision require that all homeowners keep their street lamp in an operable condition. If your light is on in the daylight hours, the photosensor has likely gone bad and needs replacing. This is not an expensive procedure, and we have handymen in EE who can do this for you for a nominal charge. If the light is out during the dark hours, it is probably the bulb, which the HOA will replace for you at no charge. Call 399-0455, or 398-4829 if you have questions or need a new bulb.

The Third  Snake Art  Workshop is scheduled for Thursday & Friday, January 19 & 20, starting at 1 p.m. at the Ramada. Please come and finish your projects. Wear old clothes and bring a bucket and a sponge.  There is space for three more artists to join us.  Thanks, Jane.

Here is a note from Sam Simonson: "Thank you to so many EE neighbors who have so kindly called and sent cards following the death of my dear June. You are invited to attend a memorial service for her on Friday Jan. 27th at 3PM at Desert Hills Lutheran Church on del Sol followed by coffee in the fellowship hall.  You are all the greatest!!" Sam Simonson.

Have a good week.
