Esperanza Estates

Green Valley, AZ

January 11

Good Morning:

Coffee and Donuts at the Ramada is back! The kickoff will be this coming Wednesday, January 13, beginning at 9 a.m. This is a freebee, so come on down and join us for a cup and a donut at the Ramada. No meeting, no agenda, no axe to grind--just a little time with friends and neighbors sharing a cup and a donut. See you there!

Remember the Hospitality Committee’s Hamburger Nite planned for tomorrow evening, January 12, at Sunset Ramada. The event begins at 4:30 (cocktail sippers--bring your own alcohol) and continues until the last dog is hung. Excellent hamburgers, cheeseburgers and veggie-burgers, drinks, table service, all necessary condiments, and a fun time at a nominal cost. Come on down and see your friends and enjoy the evening. Please bring a can of food, or a non-perishable item for the local Food Bank. There will be a collection bin available.

The Home Tour is on!

This year's Tour will be sponsored by our Enhancement Team. The date is March 21st, and the Tour will proceed under the capable leadership of Donna Collins. A number of interesting Esperanza Estates homes have been selected for the Tour, which will be followed by a wine and cheese fest at the Ramada. Tickets are limited to 100, so when they go on sale, move quickly as this is always a sell-out. This Tour has been previously held in our subdivision, several times, and has been a giant hit with our residents. This is a chance to see what your neighbors have done with their homes, and you will be amazed at the decorating and architectural talent we have here. Watch this Memo for additional details. All proceeds go to the Enhancement Team’s future projects for the benefit of Esperanza Estates. Mark this date right now, and look forward to the Tour.

Remember the Annual Meeting of the EEHOA will be held next Monday, January 18, per the letter of information you should have received a couple of weeks ago. Questions? Call 399-0455. The 2010 EE phone directory will be available for purchase at the meeting, and we are trying to arrange to have an audio-visual presentation about our website and on-line Forum & Calendar, put on by our webmaster, Craig Surprise. You will also have a chance to see the new lamp post light.

The following message was received from Green Valley Food Bank:

If you have citrus trees and don’t have time or can’t pick or use all the fruit from your trees, we want to inform the community that the Green Valley Food Bank Gleaners are ready to pick and transport their extra citrus to the Food Bank. We collected 54,901 pounds in 2009 that went directly to households in need. We hope to exceed 60,000 pounds in 2010. To schedule a gleaning appointment, please call 625-5252. The gleaning program will continue through April 15, 2010.

The 9th annual Lunar Party will take place February 28th. Watch for details, but reserve this date for this always fun event. Ask someone who has been there!

FIRE CORPS IS LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS
Green Valley Fire District
is looking for a few good men and women for their volunteer work force known as Fire Corps.  Fire Corps is a nationally known organization dedicated to assisting fire departments and the communities they serve.  Fire Corps volunteers perform numerous non-emergency functions for the District including snake removal, installation of reflective hydrant markers, smoke detector servicing, and various duties around the District. Volunteers will undergo training classes for several weeks to perform the above functions as well as instruction in driving, radio operation, fire rehab and scene response.
Applicants must be 18 years of age although most volunteers in this area are retired. You must have a current drivers’ license and will undergo basic background checks. Upon completion of class, new members will be asked to work at least 4-5 hours per week on “shift.”
There is also need of volunteers at the administrative level to perform various functions in the office setting. They will complete separate training.
Those interested in field work must be able to perform all duties including picking up venomous critters, climbing ladders up to 10 feet, lifting moderate loads, driving a full-size pickup and, in general, be reasonably fit and agile.
An information meeting will be held in January with classes starting the last week in January.
Interested parties should contact the GVFD at 625-9400.

Remember, one can do neat things without being a martyr. In fact, the flame grows brighter for both when one candle lights another.

Have a good week.
