Esperanza Estates

Green Valley, AZ

January 10

Good Morning:

The first Hamburger Nite of 2011 will be held tomorrow night at the Ramada. Cocktails begin at 4:30 and hamburgers, cheeseburgers, or veggie-burgers will be served starting at 5:00, for the nominal cost of only $5.00. This includes chips and a drink, and it is table served. These are always very popular events, put on by our own hard-working Hospitality Committee. Come down and enjoy the event.

Free Coffee and Donuts at the Ramada will be held Wednesday, the following morning, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Come on down and enjoy a cup and a donut, and start the morning.

The Volunteer Landscape Work Crew will start its second clean up project on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. (immediately after coffee & donuts!)
Volunteers should meet at the Ramada. We plan to work on the walking trail next to the arroyo between Portillo & Holgado.  Please bring any gloves, clippers, shovels, rakes, and trash bags you have. You can work as much or as little as you like. No time commitment is required.

Make a New Year's resolution to get rid of that old clutter that you're not using any more?  You're in luck!  Our Enhancement Team is collecting new & used items for their annual Patio Sale, to be held this coming spring. They are accepting clean household items and small furniture.  For pickup, call: Bev Brow 625-7741; Lorna Kitchak 838-0653; Jackie Rautio 269-7864. This is the Team's major yearly fund-raiser, and remember, all proceeds from the sale are invested right back into EE for improvements and enhancements.

Remember to attend the EEHOA Annual Meeting, one week from today--January 17, 2011. Full details, including your ballot, are in the recent mailing. We have learned that apparently a few of the recent mailings dealing with the upcoming annual meeting of the HOA were sent out without ballots. If you happen to receive one without a ballot, you may obtain a ballot by emailing bmccalpin@cox.net, or by calling 867-8067.  Ballots will also be available at the meeting.

The 2011 EE Phone & Street Directory will be available to order at the Annual Meeting.  You may purchase one or more directories for delivery to your home; at the same time you can check the information that will appear in the directory to make sure that it is up to date and as you would like it to appear.  (Nickname?  It's OK in the EE directory.)

A walk down the EE Trail east from Portillo will bring an interesting look at a series of simulated Indian petroglyphs, miniature villages, ruins, rock cairns, and other artifacts that have been built there by Stoney Brown and another resident, "Bob", from Nueva. Take this hike sometime soon and have a look at what these two gentlemen have done.

A Dessert Buffet will be held at the Ramada on Jan. 30 at 6:00 p.m. It is sponsored by the Esperanza Enhancement Team, and tickets are just $5.00.  Buy your tickets at Hamburger Nite on January 11, or by calling Jackie Rautio (269-7864) or Lorna Kitchak (838-0653.) For the price of a ticket, attendees will be able to sample 3 desserts; coffee or tea will be provided.  For entertainment, an old-fashoned Cake Walk is planned.

The Enhancement Team is also putting out a call to all EE bakers -- to prepare and donate their favorite desserts for the Dessert Buffet.  For further details, contact one of the Team mentioned above, or Barb McCalpin at 867-8067. This  event is a fund-raiser for the Team, to help fund their projects, all of which directly go to benefit Esperanza Estates. Your participation will help in these efforts.

The pool remains closed. We thought we had the electrical issue figured out, but some further tests now show the initial determination may not have been correct. Work continues to determine the source of the problem. Old and uncertain wiring is at the crux of the matter. Over the years there was a lot of wiring done at the pool by persons whose credentials may have been questionable, making it more difficult now to take corrective action. No wiring plan, or diagram, was ever maintained, and much of the wiring is either underground or in sealed areas. We hope to have it open again in just a few more days. Please bear with us on this.

Many thanks to Craig Surprise and Lance Ewing for their work on rehabilitating the fountain at Sunset Park.

Have a good week.
