Monday Morning Memo

Movie Moves to Monday
This week's movie, Argo, will be shown on Monday night at 7:15 pm.  Based on a true story, this 2012 winner of an Academy Award for Best Picture will keep you on the edge of your seat as six American diplomats attempt to escape from Iran after the embassy is overrun.  Thanks to Jane and Eric Ellingson for another great showing.

Pima County Voting Logic and Accuracy Test
If you checked out the notices in Sunday's Green Valley News, you may be wondering what the Tuesday, August 2 event might be.  No, they won't be checking to see if voters make a logical choice when casting their ballots. The Arizona Secretary of State's office visits each county to test the voting machines and scanners used.  Sound like an interesting process?  You too can attend.  Just show up at the Elections Center at 6550 S. Country Club Road in Tucson at 8:30 am.

Posada Java Big Band Concert--With Ice Cream
Enjoy the Big Band Sounds of Green Valley, featuring Joey Lessa this Friday, July 29 at 6 pm.  Cool off with ice cream while you dance or just listen to the old favorites at Posada Java, 665 S. Park Centre Ave, part of the La Posada Complex. Donations will be collected to benefit the Amado-Green Valley-Sahuarita Food Bank.

Monsoon-less Margarita Night
Monsoons seem to have passed us by this summer, but the smell of lime is in the air and Margaritas will make an appearance at the Ramada in August, so flip through your go-together appetizer recipes. Date & time TBA.

Send a Selfie
The Periodico has been receiving lots of photos of Esperanzans enjoying their summer, and we can't wait to share them in September.  Send yours to

In Memoriam
It is with deep personal sadness that I report the passing of my dear friend Ken Adler (Calle del Regalo) on July 20.  Our condolences to his family and friends.
