Monday Morning Memo

June 4, 2018        Esperanza Estates        Green Valley, AZ

Wednesday Night Movie
Movie night resumes this week at 7:00 PM at the Ramada. The film will be The Magnificent Seven. A poor Mexican village hires seven gunfighters to help defend their homes. Thanks to Jane & Eric Ellingson for sponsoring this event.

Hospitality Event
The hospitality committee has a cool meal planned for a hot evening on Saturday, June 16th. Events start later in the summer, so don't plan to arrive until 5:30 PM for social time. $8.00 per person will get you a sub sandwich, coleslaw, chips, drinks, beer and wine.

EE's Oldest Resident
Happy Birthday to John Pierce on Circulo del Sur who celebrates his 104th birthday on June 8. To put this in historical perspective, Woodrow Wilson was president and WWI had not yet begun when John was born.

Pool and Spa Remain Closed
Tom Cooke reports that the work on the pool and spa are progressing well and hopes they will be back in service within a week. We will send out a notice when they reopen.

Something to Bear in Mind
Drought in Arizona means less available food for all wildlife--including bears. A hiker's encounter with a bear in Madera Canyon last week prompts a reminder to make yourself loud and noisy when face to face with a bear. Don't turn and run. Just back away if the bear doesn't leave. Be alert. Animals roam into new territory if hunger forces them to.

There's Still Time to Trim Your Tall Palm
Have a tall palm or two in your yard? It's time to arrange to have them trimmed, to eliminate the fire hazard they create during monsoon season. The EE Board requires palms to be trimmed by June 30th or the Board will do so at cost+ to the property owner of $80.00/tree. Homeowners can hire anyone they desire. We have an agreement with Monstrosity Tree Service (520-230-7131) for $55.00/tree which they will honor for everyone in EE.

Memorial Service
The memorial service for Leon Meyer who passed away last week will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 9, at Desert Hills Lutheran Church on Camino del Sol. A luncheon will follow the service.
