Monday Morning Memo

Wednesday Movie
The movie this week is Australia starring Nicole Kidman.   In northern Australia before World War II, an English aristocrat who inherits a sprawling ranch reluctantly makes a pact with a stockman in order to protect her new property from a takeover plot.  As the pair drive 2,000 head of cattle over unforgiving landscape, they experience the bombing of Darwin, Australia, by Japanese forces firsthand.  Showtime is 7:15 p.m. at the Ramada. Thanks to the Ellingsons for sponsoring this event and to Fred Hills for loaning this week's DVD.

Let's Do Lunch
EE Book Discussion Group members are going to lunch at the Stables in Tubac on Friday, June 30, and any Esperanza resident is welcome to come.  If you would like to go, please contact Linda Sielken (908-240-1887) by Wednesday and meet at the Ramada at 11:30 (this is a change from the original meeting time) to car pool.

Thanks to Summer Waterers
Thanks to the summer watering crew: Sharon Falor, Ron McLaughlin and Pat Sharpe. They are keeping our common area plantings alive through this hot summer.

Fourth of July Celebration
Celebrate Independence Day with your friends and neighbors at the Ramada starting at 6:00 p.m. There won't be fireworks or patriotic music, but the Hospitality Committee will be serving a Fourth of July feast of hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, apple pie, watermelon, beer and wine for $7.00.

There's Still Time to Trim Those 'Lightning Rods'
Lightning fire concerns make trimming your tall palms a must in EE. June 30 is the deadline. The HOA will arrange for any untrimmed palms to be trimmed after that date, with the cost plus a surcharge of 50% billed to the homeowner.

Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Training
Ever wonder what you could do if a neighbor, friend, or stranger collapsed in front of you? Prepare yourself for the unexpected by taking an AED training session--so that you'll know how to use our AEDs at the pool and the courts.  For EE residents who are also Green Valley Recreation (GVR) members, free AED training classes are scheduled for July 10 at 2 pm and July 18 at 6 pm. Contact Maureen McCarthy at 520-838-0160 or maureen@gvr.org for more information.

Pool Time for Pooches
If you're furry friend has been really feeling the heat, mark your calendar now for the second annual Paws in the Pool scheduled for Friday, August 18th from 7-10 a.m.. Green Valley Recreation (GVR) welcomes members and non-members alike to this pause (paws) that refreshes.
