Monday Morning Memo

June 18, 2018        Esperanza Estates        Green Valley, AZ

Last Board Meeting of the Season
The EE Board will meet today at 1 PM at the Ramada for the last regularly scheduled meeting until September. The agenda is at the bottom of this memo.

Wednesday Night Movie
The title of this week's movie (7 PM at the Ramada) is fitting for our monsoon season: Rain Man. When car dealer Charlie Babbitt (Tom Cruise) learns that his estranged father has died, he returns home to Cincinnati, where he discovers that he has an autistic older brother named Raymond (Dustin Hoffman) and that his father's $3 million fortune is being left to the mental institution in which Raymond lives. Motivated by his father's money, Charlie checks Raymond out of the facility in order to return with him to Los Angeles. The brothers' cross-country trip ends up changing both their lives. Thanks to Jane and Eric Ellingson for sponsoring this event.

Weeds
It's now officially monsoon season which delights us all, but summer rains also bring those dreaded weeds which can spring up overnight in our yards. Thanks to Tom Cooke and Boyd Morse, EE's common areas will remain virtually weed-free this summer.  But homeowners should keep in mind that they are responsible for maintaining their yards. If there are weeds out of control on your property, the HOA may deal with them and send you the bill, plus a 50% service fee. If you have a hardship that makes it physically or financially impossible to address weed issues, help is available. Please call Tom Cooke at (520) 399-0455 to make arrangements.

Pool and Spa Open
At long last, the pool and spa have been re-opened after significant work was done to them.  Thanks to Craig Surprise for overseeing the work.

Bear Sighting on Santa Gertrudis Lane
Twitchers often flock to the Santa Cruz River south of Tumacacori to add one more rare species to their bird lists. If you're considering an early morning hike in the Santa Gertrudis Lane area, be aware that you may run into a black bear. One was photographed Saturday June 9 near the railroad tracks.

Nice Monsoon Madness Party!
The rain on Saturday didn't deter our Hospitality Committee from throwing a great party. Thanks to those who work hard so we can visit with our neighbors and have a nice meal. We appreciate what they do.

Not Much Time Left to Schedule Palm Trimming
The EE Board requires palms to be trimmed by June 30th, or the Board will arrange to have it done after that at cost+ to the property owner of $80.00/tree. Homeowners can hire any tree service they choose.  Our agreement with Monstrosity Tree Service (520-320-7131) for $55.00/tree will be honored for everyone in EE.

Happy Anniversary to the MMM
This week's issue of the Monday Morning Memo marks the 13th anniversary of the first issue, dated June 20, 2005.  The first memo went out to 24 people. This week's will go out to 376 recipients. The idea for a weekly neighborhood newsletter was originated by Bruce Liljegren and the first editor was Max Perry, who was followed by Tom Cooke, then the current editors, Kris Bean & Cynthia Surprise.

For a bit of nostagia, following is the first MMM:

Welcome to the inaugural issue of the Esperanza Estates Monday Morning Memo.

Today's memo goes out to twenty-four subscribers.

I can't always promise a great deal of news, but I think this could become a valuable communications tool for our Association. Thanks to Bruce Liljegren for the suggestion of this memo.

Your Board has noticed that some of the in-ground trash cans and lids have seen better days. Gary Chelseth has researched this topic and discovered that, while replacement parts are not available, new units can be had here:

     Tru-Value Hardware...$127.99. The can insert...$46.99.

     Ace Hardware...$135.99.

So, if you're inclined to replace your trash can....there you go.

Bruce Liljegren continues to actively pursue a solution to the nonfunctioning jets in the spa. This is a high priority and we'll keep you posted on the progress.

A reminder that you need to look at your palm trees (if, of course, you have palm trees) and have them trimmed, if needed. Our palm and tall tree trimmer is back from vacation. (He'll be at my house today.)  You can reach Rob McCord at 721-9472, cell 869-9472. Of course, you can use anyone else you want.

Don't forget the OLD FASHIONED FOURTH OF JULY PARTY.....

5:30 at the pool ramada and only $5.00 per person.

RSVP to Kay Miller 393-1914 or Scottie Blum 399-0955 or Nona Sykes 648-0290.

Well, that's it for this week.

Any suggestions for future issues will be gratefully accepted.

Have a good week.

Max
