Monday Morning Memo

Wednesday Night Movie
This week's movie at 7:00 PM at the Ramada is the 2008 comedy Mad Money, starring Diane Keaton and Queen Latifah. Three female employees of the Federal Reserve plot to steal money that is about to be destroyed. Thanks to Jane & Eric Ellingson for sponsoring this event.

Hospitality Event this Saturday
Join your neighbors for a light summer supper at the Ramada on June 16th, Saturday, at 5:30 PM. $8.00 per person. Sub sandwiches, coleslaw, chips, soft drinks, beer & wine.

Pool & Spa Progress
The pool & spa are now refilled, after being emptied to allow the algae bloom in the pool to be corrected and to allow the cool decking surrounding the pool & spa to be refurbished.  There is no chlorine in the water of either one yet and they will not be safe to use until the "Closed until further notice" signs have been removed from the gates.  We'll send out a notice as soon as that happens.

Update on Esperanza Property Acquisition
Latest from the committee: "The HOAs and sellers are working together to create documents that include the terms that we all agree on. In short, we hope that we are getting ready to take the final steps and expect a firm decision very soon. Thanks to all for your patience.

Walking the dog
An article in Sunday's GV News about some health risks for dogs in our desert climate had a useful bit of information:
"Pet owners often are not aware of the dangers of walking their dogs during the summer. The general rule-of-thumb is that if the back of your hand on the pavement starts to burn within five seconds, it's too hot to walk your dog."

Hurricane Season brings... Scammers
With hurricane season just under way, the IRS reminds tax-payers that criminals and scammers try to take advantage of taxpayers' generosity by soliciting donations for bogus relief organizations. To read IRS publication IR-2018-132 which talks about the scammers' methods, click here.

Medicare Supplement Insurance and Your New Number
You won't have to call or write the company responsible for your Medicare Supplement insurance to let them know your new Medicare number. Medicare will take care of that chore for you. Just have the new card ready to present to your doctor, therapist, or hospital on your next visit. And NO, NO, NO don't give that new number to any unsolicited caller.

There's Still Time to Trim Your Tall Palm
Have a tall palm or two in your yard? It's time to arrange to have them trimmed, to eliminate the fire hazard they create during monsoon season. The EE Board requires palms to be trimmed by June 30th or the Board will do so at cost+ to the property owner of $80.00/tree. Homeowners can hire anyone they desire. We have an agreement with Monstrosity Tree Service (520-230-7131) for $55.00/tree which they will honor for everyone in EE.

In Memoriam
We are saddened to report that Chuck Shipman (Placita Nueva) passed away on June 4 and Joan White (Circulo Napa) passed away on June 8. Our condolences to their families and friends. A memorial service for Chuck will be held on Monday, June 25, at 3:00 PM at the United Methodist Church, 300 W. Esperanza Blvd.
