Wednesday Night Movie
This week's movie (7:00 PM in the Ramada) is MASH, the original 1971 movie starring Donald Sutherland and Elliott Gould. Thanks to Jane and Eric Ellingson for sponsoring this event.

Thanks for the Great Party
The Hospitality Committee did it again with their festive Cinco de Mayo party last Saturday.  Over 80 attendees, many wearing colorful garb, enjoyed the plentiful array of potluck fare. And, yes, we were once again treated to what has become an EE tradition: Tom Cooke's Cinco de Mayo joke.

Ice Out on the Santa Cruz
For those of you who recently returned to your summer homes where temperatures are still in the 50s (brrr!), we wanted to be sure you knew that we are expecting to reach 100 degrees this week.  If you are new to the area, you may be scratching your head when you hear people saying "Ice is out on the Santa Cruz."  That's how some refer to breaking 100 degrees in our area.

Land Acquisition Update From the Committee: "The Las Campanas Community Association (LCCA) has stated that they are interested in buying the property and their Board of Directors is working through their process.
An agreement in principle has been reached with three of the four HOAs - Portillo Place, Ventura West and Esperanza Estates - and the homeowners who purchased the property. The agreed upon terms, under which we would collect and provide our pledged donations, have been sent to Las Campanas for their legal review. The agreement is basically that the land will never be developed and this condition could not be changed even if the property is sold at a later date. Our residents will also have access to the property.
We expect LCCA's initial feedback any day now. If there are no issues raised that affect the agreement then it will be submitted to our respective HOA Boards for formal approval. Once that happens we will go forward with pledge collections.
We can see the finish line and the track is cleaner than that at the Kentucky Derby!"

Attention Book Discussion Group Members
The group will discuss Hotel Paradise at the next meeting on May 8 at 1:00 PM at the Ramada, and will also consider selections for next year. Members attending the meeting will pick the finalists and all members will be invited to vote by email. A list of recommended books appears in the March issue of the Periodico on the EE website esperanzaestates.net. Bring any other suggestions to the meeting or email Linda Sielken at lsielken@gmail.com.

Doing Some Exterior Repainting?
The EE website paint colors page has been updated to note that Dunn-Edwards paint is available at the Sahuarita Ace Hardware, in addition to D-E's four Tucson area stores. A neighbor reported that he had received a 25% discount at the Ace store after mentioning our HOA discount available at D-E stores.

Help Stamp Out Hunger
The annual letter carriers' stamp out hunger food drive is Saturday, May 12. If you want to contribute, you can leave donations of non-perishable food next to your mailbox before your regular mail delivery time. Also, remember that there is always a bin at the Ramada where you can make donations any time.
