Monday Morning Memo

April 24, 2017        Esperanza Estates        Green Valley, AZ

Wednesday Movie
This week's movie is Death at a Funeral. A funeral turns into a debacle of exposed family secrets and misplaced bodies. It's a comedy. Showtime is 7:00 p.m. at the Ramada. Thanks to Jane and Eric Ellingson for sponsoring this popular event.

Dedication
All EE residents are invited to attend the dedication of the new monument in Flag/EE Park (corner of Esperanza Blvd and Camino Holgado) on Thursday, April 27th at 4:30.
Please bring some snacks to accompany the beverages Jim Copeland will provide.

Hospitality Continues This Summer
Our social events will continue throughout the summer thanks to new leader Nancy Ferguson and her dedicated team of year-round committee members. New members are always welcome to join. The first event will be a Cinco de Mayo Fiesta on May 5 starting at the usual time of 4:30 with food served at 5:00 at the Ramada. This is a potluck and the Hospitality Committee will furnish dessert, margaritas, beer and wine. Since this is a Mexican fiesta, we encourage everyone to dress the part. For fun, there will be a couple of pinatas filled with goodies.

Book Discussion Group
The EE Book Discussion Group will meet Tuesday, May 2 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ramada to discuss THIS HOUSE OF SKY: Landscapes of a Western Mind by Ivan Doig. The author is considered the premier writer of the American West. All are welcome!
To keep everyone reading over the summer months, please bring titles of a few books that you have enjoyed--bring paper and pencil to write down the titles that may sound interesting. See you there!

Waterers
Thanks to Pat Sharpe and Ron McLaughlin who have volunteered to water the sunflowers and grasses at Mountain View Park this summer.

Benches
Need a spot to rest while you meander around the neighborhood? New benches (with comfortable backs) have been installed in the Ramada garden, Palo Verde del Norte (formerly known as Pie I) and next to the new monument in Flag Park. Two of the benches were funded by Enhancement and one by the raffles and auctions of mesquite crafts by Jim Copeland & Terry Shay.

EE Periodico
After seven seasons as publisher and editor of the Periodico de Esperanza, Denise Roessle and Cynthia Surprise have decided to retire. While they have enjoyed their work, their lives have changed and they believe the time has come to let others carry on with the job. They hope to publish one final edition of the Periodico shortly. The Monday Morning Memo will continue to let residents know of important news and events in EE. Anyone interested in taking over the Periodico can contact Cynthia with any questions.

What Was Your Name, Again?
If you don't already have an EE name tag, they'll just have to wonder until September. Melodye Cooke has sent in her last name tag order of the season.

Bee Alert: Don't Give Them a Home
Spring swarms of bees huddled around their new queen aren't looking for trouble; they're just looking for a home. Don't let it be yours. Fill any tiny cracks and holes in porches and walls now before their scouts find them. Scouts invesitgating your home will move on, if they find no entry.
Resting swarms in trees and bushes or on walls with no entry will move on within a few days. Don't swat at them; that signals that you are a threat to them. Give them a wide berth and contact a board member to place warning signs in the area.

Leaving for the Summer?
Even if you are only going to be away for a week or two, now is a good time to be sure your Neighborhood Watch block captain has your updated emergency contact information. Not sure who your block captain is? Call Mary Beth Wallace at 399-0299.

EE History
Curious about the history of our wonderful HOA? The history of EE's early years is now posted under 'HOA Documents' on our website (esperanzaestates.net).

Attention Yoga Participants
The last class of the season will be this Wednesday, April 26 at 3 p.m., at the Ramada. Classes will resume in the fall.
