Monday Morning Memo

March 25, 2019        Esperanza Estates        Green Valley, AZ

Attention New Residents
The EE Bienvenidos Committee will hold its annual reception for new residents on Wednesday, March 27, at 4:00 PM at the Ramada.
If you are new to EE and plan to attend, please RSVP today to Barb McCalpin at 520-867-8067 if you have not already done so.

Movie Night
This week's movie on Wednesday at 7:00 PM at the Ramada is Dave starring Kevin Kline and Sigourney Weaver. To avoid a potentially explosive scandal when the U.S. President goes into a coma, an affable temp agency owner with an uncanny resemblance is put in his place. Thanks to Jane & Eric Ellingson for sponsoring this event.

Volunteers Needed
Eric Ellingson and Bob Winterland have stepped down from their positions as Neighborhood Relations and Green Valley Council Rep, respectively. The Board would like to express its appreciation to them for their past work on behalf of EE. The Board is now looking for neighbors interested in filling these important shoes.
Neighborhood Relations responsibilities are to help neighbors sort out differences that may arise between them. This is a much-appreciated position that has gone a long way over the years to keep EE the friendly community that it is.
The GVC Representative will attend the monthly GVC meetings and report at HOA Board meetings on the results of any actions taken or new ideas on the horizon. It does not involve other GVC committee responsibilities unless the rep is interested in assuming them.
If you are interested in either of these opportunities, please call Dave Sielken at 908-346-1760 or email him at dwsielken@gmail.com.

News from the EE Gardeners
There will be an EE Gardeners work session on Wednesday starting at 9:00. They will be planting agaves in the area south of Circulo del Sur. The plantings will be the start of the Calle Agaves in the waste area south of the house on del Sur. Bring rakes and gloves. Everyone is invited to help with this project. Meet at Mesquite Park (located between Camino Holgado and Circulo del Sur).
Mesquite Park has now gone through a makeover with new plantings, tree trimming and a new pad for the table and benches. Take some time to walk through the park in the next two weeks as the mesquites will be in bloom. Thanks to everyone who helped with the work there and especially to Jane and Eric Ellingson who donated the table and benches.

Thanks, Charlie
Kudos to Charlie Bonham, a handy guy who knows his way around a welding gun. He recently helped the HOA by attaching wheels to the new heaters at the Ramada.

Hospitality
Thanks to the EE Hospitality Committee for another wonderful social event last week.
Thanks also to the residents who brought their family favorite dish to share.
Mark your calendars now for the next Hospitality event on April 11. Burgers and brats are on the menu.

Green Valley Directories
The 2019 edition of this community reference is now available to all residents. Copies are free for the taking and can be found on the counter at the Ramada. If for some reason there are none in sight, call Dave Sielken at 908-346-1760 -- he has plenty!

Have a Suggestion?
There are a lot of good ideas out there for improving our HOA. If you have a suggestion, don't keep it to yourself. To bring it to the Board's attention, you can put it in the suggestion box on the wall of the Ramada kitchen.

Pickleball Court Renovation Update
Thanks to Greg Gramstad and his team of very hard working volunteers, the old court has been removed and the oleanders have been trimmed. The old court was donated to a school in Tucson. The current schedule for renovations is as follows (nearby neighbors may want to pay particular attention):
Week 1 (April 2-8): Prep court for concrete pour - prepare surface, set forms, install cabling. (A dumpster may be on site for one or two days.)
Week 2 (April 9-15): Pour concrete in the early morning.
Weeks 3, 4, 5 & 6 (April 16-May 13): Prep surface for coating, roll down chain link fencing, and cut and knuckle to new elevation, other misc. chores.
Week 7 or 8 (May 14-28): Coat and stripe surface for 4 pickleball courts.
Questions? Call Max Perry at 520-331-2973.

Attention Grandparents -- Pool Hours and Rules
A reminder that the hours children can use the pool are 11:00 - 1:00 and 4:00 - 6:00. Also, all guests using the EE recreational facilities should be accompanied by a resident.

Happy Hour Date Change
For many years the local Blind Golfers group has met at the Ramada to celebrate their accomplishments. In order to allow them to keep to their regular schedule, Happy Hour will be held on Thursday, April 4 rather than on Friday.

Happy Hour Dates
Happy Hour at the Ramada will start at 4:00 PM on Thursday, April 4 and the following Fridays: April 19, May 3, May 17, May 31. Bring your own beverage, glasses, utensils, and an appetizer to share.

Neighborhood Watch Alert
Taxpayers should be aware of fraud during tax season, according to the Arizona Department of Revenue (ADR). Most tax preparers are qualified professionals, but some have attempted to submit fraudulent returns or promise larger refunds by making fraudulent changes to tax returns.
This year has seen an increase in the number of fraudulent tax preparers. Make sure to do your research before hiring a tax preparer.

In Memoriam
We sadly report that Joe McMahon (Calle del Regalo) passed away on March 18. Our condolences to his family and friends.
