Monday Morning Memo

October 10, 2016        Esperanza Estates        Green Valley, AZ

****ALERT***ROAD MEETING LOCATION CHANGE
Wondering how and when Pima County roads in EE will be repaired and what it will cost homeowners? Green Valley Council is sponsoring an informative meeting with Deputy County Administrator Tom Burke and County Finance Director Keith Dommer on Tuesday, October 11 at 9:30 am.
Head over to the GVR Desert Hills Social Center at 2980 South Camino Del Sol and prepare to be enlightened.
This is EE's largest and potentially most costly problem. The county believes that we should bear some or all of the cost. Maximum homeowner participation in this meeting is crucial. Please try to attend if possible.

The Queen to Make an Appearance Wednesday Night
The movie, not Elizabeth II herself. Wednesday evening at 7 pm the 2006 British fictional drama will be shown at the Ramada. Helen Mirren won an Oscar for her portrayal of the monarch. Thanks to Eric and Jane Ellingson for setting up another movie night.

Monday, October 17 the EE Board Meeting
Put it on your calendar now. Next Monday at 1:00 pm the EE Board will hold its monthly meeting at the Ramada.

Do Not Miss DoNuts
Thanks to the Cookes (Tom and Melodye) and the Surprises (Craig and Cynthia) coffee, donuts, and neighbors will once again make their appearance at the Ramada Wednesday, October 19, at 8:00 am. Tom and Craig will be up at the crack of dawn to bake the pastries, so show up early for the best selection.

Pizza Party Draws Neighbors Together
Thanks to Jane Ellingson and the Hospitality Crew, last week's Pizza Party brought nearly 90 EE'ers to the Ramada for an evening of good food and great company. Mark your calendar now for Thursday, November 3 when Stacie Meyer and Cheri Day will be heading up the Taco Bar.

Gardeners Get Going
Thanks to all who worked on maintaining our parks this summer. With the heat waning, it's time to start planning activities for the coming year. Our head gardener, Jim Copeland, will hold the first meeting of the season on November 2 at 1:00 pm at the Ramada. Regular monthly meetings will be held on Wednesday mornings following the HOA board meeting, after coffee and donuts (about 9:15). New members are always welcome.

Book Discussion Group News
Due to scheduling conflicts, the November meeting has been cancelled. At the meeting on December 6 at 11:00 am, the group will discuss the November selection, West with the Night by Beryl Markham in addition to the December selection The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom.  New members are always welcome.

Madera Canyon Bear Sightings
Hikers recently reported bear encounters along trails in Madera Canyon. Heading to the canyon? It's good to avoid smelling like food or even toothpaste. Avoid those cookie smelling bath and hair products. Don't wear the same clothes that you were wearing while cooking breakfast (Yumm... bacon-flavored hiker ahead.)  Pack snacks in airtight solid containers--not plastic bags. Don't leave food in your vehicle. Make some noise as you hike.  We suggest singing "The Bear Went Over the Mountain." If you see a bear in the distance, alter your route.  If a bear comes close, make yourself appear large and make noise. To report bear sightings phone the Arizona Game and Fish Department at 623-236-7201.

Name Tag Order in the Works
For the low price of $6 you can bring aid and comfort to the forgetful. Wear your personalized magnetic name tag and neighbors will greet you warmly after only a cursory glance at your chest. Call Melodye Cooke at 520-336-8844 or e-mail her at melodye1@cox.net.

In Memoriam
Our condolences to the family and friends of Cliff Skogstrom (Calle Excelso) who passed away on September 27.
